SMS consent & opt-outs

Texting customers comes with rules. Suddenly Sorted handles the compliance for you — every message can be opted out of, and opt-outs are honoured automatically on every send.

When you turn on SMS confirmations or reminders, your customers get a text from a New Zealand number with your business name in it. New Zealand's Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act asks that every marketing-style message be clearly identified and easy to unsubscribe from — and that's built into every text Suddenly Sorted sends, so you don't have to think about it.

A booking-confirmation text message from a salon, ending with the line 'Reply STOP to opt out.' so the customer can unsubscribe at any time.
Every text ends with “Reply STOP to opt out.” — the opt-out a customer needs is always one reply away.

Every text carries a STOP opt-out

You don't have to add anything. Every confirmation, reminder and reschedule text automatically ends with “Reply STOP to opt out.” The message also names your business, so the customer always knows who it's from. There's nothing to configure and no way to accidentally send a text without it.

How a customer opts out — or back in

Customers can decline at booking time, too

On your booking page, the contact step shows a short line letting the customer know they'll get text updates and can reply STOP anytime. If they'd rather not be texted, unticking it records the opt-out up front — so the very first reminder respects their choice.

Handled for you STOP replies are enforced by the SMS provider itself, and booking-time declines are checked before every single text leaves our system — no spreadsheets, no manual scrubbing. One thing to know: because STOP is handled at the network level, those opt-outs don't currently show up in your dashboard. If a regular says they've stopped getting texts, a STOP reply is the most likely reason.
